The turn order you want here is Fasolt, Bolverk, Krumr, Iver. Bolverk is both your biggest asset and biggest weakness here as the archers tend to focus on him due to his low armour and strength. This fight has tons of barricades and the enemies are almost exclusively archers with maybe one or two spearmen among them. The key battles that will give you trouble are The second issue is the Varl are all 2x2 sized units and there are a few maps, especially one near the end of the run in which this is a massive disadvantage for you as the pathways are narrow and you can only get one or two of your units through at a time. It is extremely important to ensure your characters are not left in a vulnerable position as the enemy will punish you for it when many of them are able to act before you get another chance to. First you are usually heavily outnumbered by the enemy, thanks to this you and the enemy alternate turns until all of your units have acted and then all remaining enemies will get a turn before the order starts again. The difficulty in this run comes in two areas. When it comes to Krumr and Iver they have two roles, Krumr can deal damage and Iver can tank when needed but their primary role is to use Forge Ahead on Bolverk jumping him to the front of the turn queue for damage when you need to focus on one or two specific enemies - mainly in the boss fight stages. Bolverk is your primary damage unit but remember to try and position him so he is only adjacent to enemies as he can deal out friendly fire, use Cull the Weak whenever you can to get extra turns in rapid succession. His main job is to use Malice on the most dangerous enemy so they focus on him.

Fasolt is your main tank and should get any and all +Arm items as you level up. With this team the main strategy is to have the turn order of Fasolt, Bolverk then Iver & Krumr in whatever order you like behind them. Note: You could go with an extra point in dodge instead of exploit but I liked having the bonus from Oath of Andr in as many talents as I could Item - Oath of Andr (+3 to all Talents and +20% chance for critical hits) - This is great as the bonus stacks with Artery Strike for a 55% crit chance Strength - 13 - 3 points in Artery Strike Item - Hope of Gods (best thing I got during my run, if you get a better +X to all Talents and +X Arm use it) Note: You have to pick six characters to begin survival mode so just pick any other two Varl (probably not necessary but just in case)Īnd this is how I had them built by the time they hit level 10 For this run I recommend using the following four characters You can also try to avoid using the willpower horn but I would not recommend it as it will save your life at times and you are already at a huge disadvantage. During this run you will be focusing on having no units die and not recruiting any new units. The first run will be on Normal mode and will be done using only 4 of the games Varl units. Note: See the next page for more detail on the enemy composition in each battle

The map order and enemy types you fight on each map are locked in but the enemy team composition and their placements can vary so it is impossible to give a 100% accurate guide to each fight, what I will do is try to guide you with strategies on the tougher battles.

Note: If you use this save scumming method be sure to reconnect your console before you land the killing blow on Bellower at the end of Battle #40 otherwise you may have issues with achievements popping properly.Īt the start of each battle you only get 60 seconds to deploy your units and just 30 seconds to act with each character so the ability to think quickly and make good decisions is vital.

Set your console to online mode again and reload the game and it will sync your save file putting you back to the management screen before the fight you lost.

If you happen to lose a character or you fail the fight quit out of the game and press on the game tile then go to Manage Game & Add-ons, here go down to your save data and delete it (make sure you are offline so you only delete local data). Set your console to Online Mode again and boot up the game again, at the main menu it will sync your save and once it has you can go offline again. When you have won the fight wait until you get to the next team management screen quit to the main menu and exit the game. To do this make sure your console is offline (Settings - Network Settings - Go Offline) and play through a battle. Yes some may frown upon it but it is a viable strategy. While a lot of this may seem difficult you do have one option to make it all easier via save scumming.
